A Poem for Childrens Memorial Day 2011

Jacqueline Brown, Peace Valley TCF, New Britain, Pa.

Can you see our candles burning in the night?

Lights of love we send you –- rays of purest white.

Children we remember -– though missing from our sight

In honor and remembrance –- we light candles in the night.

All across the big blue marble – spinning out in space

Can you see the candles burning — from this human place?

Oh, angels gone before us –- who taught us perfect love

This night the world lights candles –- that you may see them from above.

Tonight the globe is lit by love –- of those who know great sorrow,

But as we remember our yesterdays –- let’s light one candle for tomorrow.

We will not forget, –- and every year in deep December

On Earth we will light candles –- as………………………….. we remember.

My First Letter to you

Dear mommy, daddy, bubby and sissy,

I really could not figure out a way to tell you how things have been until now.  I just want to let you know that I love each and every one of you all like a fat kid loves cake.  On that day that I went home to be with Jesus things went very smooth.  As I walked over the edge of that swimming pool, Jesus had my hand the whole time.  I did not suffer, nor was I in any sort of pain.  Jesus saved me right as soon as things got bad.  Please do your very best to not be sad.  I will always be there with you.  Jesus knows that you are all sad and he is showering you all with his love and grace each and every day.  He told me that once you all finish what it is he sent you to do you get to come home with me.  How cool is that.  Well that is it for right now.  I look forward to your next letter daddy.  I really do like those, in fact I love them.  Mommy I love your letters as well.  Keep writing to me, I know that it makes you feel a little better and that is what I want for you.  After all you are my mommy and I don’t like to see you sad.  I love you to sissy and bubby.

I love you like a fat kid loves cake,

A Day of Remembrance

Good morning Caleb,

“Ahhhhhh,”  the taste of a nice refreshing cup of coffee early in the morning.  “Oh!”  hey Caleb.  How is my little man this morning?  I am going to go and light a candle for you today, want to come?  A bunch of other mommy’s and daddy’s will be there to.  I bet you are friends with some of their children.  Heck, you are probably friends with all of them.  Anyhow, there is a ceremony that we are having today for all of you.  It is designed to bring together the mommy’s and daddy’s who have lost their children.  Pretty neat huh?  I think so.  See you there.  Oh yeah,  I am going to take that picture of you staring up at Jesus.  It is my favorite.

I love you like a fat kid loves cakes,

1 Corinthians 13:7-8

7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  8 Love never ends.  As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tounges, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

You know by reading through this passage a few times I cannot help but to think of the young and carefree spirit of children.  I think that if anyone was to have a hard time understanding this scripture, that would be the answer.  Think of a precious child.

My Little Helper

Good morning Caleb,

How are you doing on this fine morning?  Did you know that Christmas time is right around the corner?  We finally have all of our Christmas shopping done.  We did something a little different this year, I think that we are going to adopt this in the future.  There is a special tree that has the names of little boys and girls whose parents cannot afford to give them a good Christmas.  It is at a local department store.  So in honor of you we took a name off of the tree.  Needless to say that little boy is going to have a good Christmas this year.  We bought him this cool little outfit and a little computer that teaches the ABC’s.  You know and it felt really good to do that.  The whole time we were looking for these presents I felt you right beside me.  Thank you for helping us pick out those toys.  I know that little boy will love them.  I love you more than words can express son, you really have had a major impact on our lives.  So do me a favor.  Stay really close by us, at least until Christmas rolls by.  Can you do that?  It will most definitely make things more bearable.  You must ask God first though.  If he needs you, you better stay.  His work is far more important than mine is.

I love you like a fat kid loves cake,

An Answered Prayer

Good morning Caleb,

Boy I tell you it sure does feel good to be back here writing with you again.  I started to write you a letter yesterday while I was a work but I ran out of time.  For some reason yesterday was one of those days.  It seemed as if nothing in the world could cheer me up.  No matter matter how hard I tried to think about it I could not figure out where these feelings were coming from.  I resorted to praying.  I spent a few moments with the Lord to see if his loving grace could cheer me up.  I waited for the blessing but never received it.  So I went on with the rest of the day and finally it was time to go home.  Those feelings were still with me.  As I got closer to home the vision of my lovely wife and our beautiful daughter became stronger and stronger.  I turned the corner and seen the house.  The Christmas lights were all lit up, and suddenly I had a very warm feeling come over me.  The Lord may have not answered my prayer right there at that very moment, but he did in due time.  I really love you son, and I love the Lord as well.  We all do. It is really nice to hear sissy sing Christian music.  Well that pretty much sums it up for right now.  Just wanted to say hi to you and tell you I loved you.  One day we will be together again.  I know it.  We all will.  Well you go on now, have an awesome day in heaven and I will talk to you later.

I love you like a fat kid loves cake,

Straight to the Point

Jesus Strength

There you lie so lifeless in my arms, your body so limp and motionless,

so very thankful that your eyes are closed.

What it is that made this happen or why this happened I will never know,

things will be very different from this point on.

They say the pain will go away, I do not believe it,

they say that warm memories are all that is left, then why is it so cold at times.

Praying that God will help me to pull through the tough times, that he will gently carry me along….

  • Things are starting to get better
  • Going to the graveside helps
  • Praying to God helps
  • Being with my family helps
  • Writing helps
  • Crying is very healing
  • Grief counseling is good
  • Remember to put one foot in front of the other no matter what
